The soils here are layered with volcanic material, loam, and decomposed riverbed; a rare combination that produces wines of deep structure, earthy elegance, and wild aromatic complexity. The elevation places the vineyard above the fog line, where warm days and cool nights create tension and grace in the fruit.
At the heart of van der Kamp is Ulysses van der Kamp, who walks the rows daily, honoring his father’s belief that “the best fertilizer is the shadow of the farmer.” This site is organically farmed with care, respecting each vine as an individual and cultivating the land with an eye toward sustainability and legacy.
